lan” for Social Care in this country. Something struck me about him after that speech that I hadn’t realised previously. I summed it up in a reply to a reply to one of my tweets about the performance.
A National Insurance Rise is the Worst Way to Pay for Social Care – Just Raise Income Tax instead
Social Care in the (Dis)United Kingdom is in crisis and has been for a very long time. It is criminally underfunded and many providers are inadequate to the point of negligence.
This is not a matter of opinion. Successive governments have admitted this for decades, but we are still waiting for a government, any government, to do something about it.
Movie Review – The Tomorrow War
The Tomorrow War was released on Amazon Prime Video as an Amazon Original at the start of July and I only sat down to watch it this past weekend. It was originally going to be released in cinemas by Paramount, but the pandemic led to Amazon snapping up the rights. There’s an interesting post there somewhere in looking at how the release of new movies has changed over the past couple of years and if it’s going to continue once we are finally out the other side of the horrible period in our civilisation.
Code 8: An interesting take on the Superpowers genre that falls a little flat
Code 8 is one of those movies that you’ve never really heard of until it pops up in your Netflix recommendations, so you give it a go.
Are there any Premier League Clubs still wholly British owned?
I’ve imported some older blog posts of mine from other blogs into this one and going through them I came across this post from 2010 on the sale of Blackburn Rovers to the Indian chicken farmers, the Venkey’s Group.
Cummings can drop as many bombs as he likes on Wednesday – But the people that need to listen, won’t care
First off, let’s be clear about this, Dominic Cummings isn’t the Good Guy here. He’s not on the side of the angels. He’s, I’m afraid, not on your side. Just because he’s likely to start throwing hand grenades at the Worst Prime Minister in History(TM) doesn’t make up for the fact that this is the guy who travelled to Barnard Castle despite national lockdown rules in order to test his eyesight to see if it was up to driving the length of the country (also during the national lockdown).
End of an Era – #ThankYouNuno
I’m in shock. I was going to write a piece this weekend analysing what ‘went wrong’ this year at Wolves, but that no longer seems appropriate—at least, not in the short term.
Jupiter’s Legacy: Super-Slow Superhero series that fails to save the day
Superhero movies & TV shows have been all the rage for well over a decade now. Jupiter’s Legacy, a Netflix original, is the latest offering in the genre. Having now been able to watch the series, here I offer up my thoughts on the show.
2020/21 – The Season that Football will want to Forget
From the lack of crowds to the burned-out players leading to a higher than usual injury rate, to the utterly abysmal way in which VAR seems to be getting worse, not better and the over-saturation of coverage of TV… It’s just been a bit shit.
Returning to the Blog
My last post here was August last year, following the utter cock-up that the government made of the A-level results. My intention in starting this blog wasn’t really to spend all my time having a go at the failing government—which is good because that be a full-time job such are their failures—but instead it was supposed to be a place to express the thoughts, questions & ideas that swim around in my noggin at a bit more length than Twitter allows.
